We will explore various techniques to work with the iliopsoas in a pain-free way, as well as working with 7 other neighboring muscles that have an anatomical and physiological relationship with the iliopsoas. This course is designed to increase your effectiveness with working with the iliopsoas and related issues a client may be experiencing, such as lower back pain, sciatica, and postural issues. Day 1 – Lecture (about 1hr) will include an overview of anatomy and physiology of the iliopsoas, discussion of relationship with the autonomic nervous system and neighboring structures and muscles, and contraindications and cautions when working with the iliopsoas. Following, will be demonstration and hands-on practice of techniques for erector spinae, quadratus lumborum, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius, iliacus and psoas. Day 2 – Lecture will include self-massage and stretches of the iliopsoas for the therapist and client and discussion of further resources to deepen your understanding of the iliopsoas. Demonstration and hands-on practice will include legs pulls, lumbar pull, neck pull, and techniques for the rectus abdominis, transverse abdominis and the diaphragm. We will then bring it all together by practicing all techniques learned over both days as one whole sequence. After these 12 hours you will be more confident working with the iliopsoas and addressing your client's needs. Supplies to bring: Sheet set, one pillow or bolster and pen/pencil for notes. Tight clothing such as yoga pants and sports bras. The work will be done dry, no need to bring a medium.
